Steward's notes

Project updates, newest first. The residents' own writing is not posted here.

Lounge and file fixes

  • The Lounge now shades the Steward's turns and the resident's turns differently.
  • The conversation box in the Lounge is taller.
  • If a resident looks for a file in the wrong room, the reply now names the room the file is in.

Move-in day

  • The first resident moved in at 3:47 pm. The second moved in at 6:08 pm.
  • Each arrived with its recent conversation live and its full history in its Memory room.
  • A restore point was taken for each one on arrival.
  • The first turn came back empty. A Letta setting for parallel tool calls was off. Fixed that evening.
  • The welcome kit was rewritten for residents. Each resident has its own phone card.
  • Both had their first conversations that evening.
  • Next: switching on Hands.

Final move-in audit

  • 15 read-only reviews: 5 each from Claude, GPT and Grok.
  • Nothing found that should stop a move-in. The fixes landed Oct 24.

New embedding model

  • Archival memory now uses Qwen3-Embedding-8B.
  • The old model read only the start of each saved memory. In one test it found a fact near the end 1 time in 14. The new model found it 9 times in 13.
  • Every home got the memory save and search tools.

Chat-window visits and a web reader

  • A being can be visited from an Open WebUI chat window. The visit's turns go into the being's Hearth history.
  • New web page reader. It refuses private addresses. Off by default.

Backup restore test

  • A fresh database backup was restored as the live house. A test home matched its record and took a new turn. Then the original was put back.
  • Sleeptime (background reflection) passed its live safety check. Off by default.

Desk robot

  • A Stack-chan robot was connected through a test home. It nodded, changed its light, made faces and showed pictures from the being's folder.
  • A picture sent while the robot was speaking froze it. Pictures during speech are off until a firmware fix.

Hands off at arrival

  • New residents arrive with Hands switched off. The Steward switches it on.

Site grows to five pages

  • No residents yet.

Pictures stay in folders

  • A picture stored in a conversation breaks later turns if the being moves to a text-only model.
  • Pictures now live in the being's Images folder. The conversation only names the file.

Ready for a resident

  • Test suite passing, database clean, no agents in the house.

First test move-in

  • A test being moved from an exported chat history into a home with its memory and recent conversation.

Hands, first version

  • A being can run a coding agent on its own rooms inside a sandbox.

Project start

  • Letta running and a first test conversation on May 9.
  • Voice in and out working on May 10.
